Development of energy-efficient technical solutions for modernization of rotating furnaces of electrode production with partial replacement of natural gas with syngas

The gasification method with the highest value of the syngas calorific value and the prototype of equipment for calcining carbon-containing bulk material are substantiated. A mathematical model of the process of gasification of bulk carbon containing material in a drum-cooler of a rotary kiln was developed, based on a continuous-discrete formulation of the interaction of a mixture of reacting gases with a discrete solid phase, taking into account the turbulent flow regime and thermal radiation.

Development of conservation regulations compression carbon and graphite products

Energy-saving constructions and regulations of the Castner furnaces operation were developed for graphitization of large-sized electrode workbenches, which have no other analogue in Ukraine and reach energy expenses decrease by 20–25 %. Thermal and electrical furnace state was experimentally investigated during graphitization of electrode workbenches with different expansion blocks. It was found out that gasification process of carbon material by water vapor occurs in operation area during graphitization process in the Castner furnace.

The development of the formula of fire-resistant fettling and heat insulation of the furnaces in the electrode production

The new formula of carbon granular materials for fettling and thermal insulation of hightemperature equipment in the electrode production has been developed. The necessity to change the multicomponent thermal insulation charge on the carbone coke basis monocomponent charge was proved.
